Ingredients

Units Scale
  • For the Drink:
    • 2 tablespoons fresh or frozen blueberries (plus more for topping)
    • 12 teaspoons fresh thyme leaves (plus a sprig for serving)
    • Juice from half a lemon
    • 2 tablespoons blueberry or blackberry jam
    • 1 1/2 ounces bourbon or tequila
    • 1/2 ounce elderflower liquor (St. Germain)
    • Sparkling water (for topping)
  • For the Lemon Sugar Rim:
    • Lemon zest
    • Granulated sugar
    • Fresh thyme leaves

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Glasses:
    • Combine lemon zest, sugar, and thyme on a shallow plate. Dip the rim of your glasses in water, then in the lemon-sugar mixture to coat. Fill the glasses with ice.
  2. Make the Cocktail Base:
    • In a cocktail shaker or glass jar, muddle the blueberries, thyme leaves, and lemon juice, pressing firmly to release the juices.
    • Add the jam, bourbon or tequila, and elderflower liquor. Fill the shaker with ice and shake well until combined.
  3. Assemble the Drink:
    • Strain the mixture into the prepared glasses. Top with sparkling water and gently stir to combine. Garnish with additional blueberries and a sprig of thyme.
  4. Adjustments and Swaps:
    • If you don’t have jam, use 2 extra tablespoons of blueberries and sweeten with honey or sugar to taste.
    • No elderflower liquor? Replace with additional bourbon or tequila, or add a dash of bitters.
